Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration.
  • The article is submitted adhere to JIIR style or using JIIR template.
  • Provide references of the submitted article in the metadata box, separated from the article file, and accessible to be extracted or indexed. Another important files (data sheets, nvivo, spss files, etc.) also can be submitted separately.

Focus and Scope

Journal of Integrative International Relations, abbreviated as JIIR, is an academic journal published twice a year by the Center for Integrative International Studies Laboratory, Faculty of Political and Social Sciences, State Islamic Universit of Sunan Ampel Surabaya in association with the Indonesian Islamic Studies and International Relations Association. The main aim of this journal is to encourage and disseminate research, promote discussion and increase networking among researchers, practitioners and academics of International Relations through scientific publications. JIIR is a multi- and interdisciplinary scientific work that focuses on various  variants  of International  Relations  issues,  such as  (though  not  limited to) global security, international political economy, international trade, regional studies, globalization and global conflict management. Scientific writing related to the integration of Islamic studies and International Relations will be a special consideration of JIIR publications. Accepted papers include research results, thoughts and book reviews. All writings will be reviewed  based  on predetermined criteria.


General Requirements

  1. Manuscripts can be written in Indonesian (following EYD) or English (academic writing).
  2. Manuscripts must be original work of the author and have never been published by another publication with ISSN.
  3. Manuscripts are sent via JIIR's Open Journal System.
  4. The manuscript will be reviewed by Reviewers' Board using a blind peer review system (The reviewer will not know the name of the author of the article).


Writing Format

  1. The manuscript was typed using MS Word 2007, paper size B5, mirrored margins, Calibri font size 11, spacing 1, distance between paragraphs 6 points, paragraph style aligned right-left/justify, first paragraph of each paragraph indented 0.75 cm.
  2. The length of the manuscript is 4000 to 5000 words for thoughts and research, while for book reviews it is 1000 to 2000 words. The first rank/title is written in size 20 font, bold, upper-lower and aligned left. The second rank/sub-title is written in font size 11.5, bold, upper-lower and left aligned. The third rank/sub-titles are written in font size 11.5, bold, upper-lower, italic and left aligned.
  3. The front page only contains the title of the article, the author's name without title (font size 14, left aligned), institutional or personal origin and email correspondence (font size 11.5 written in italics, left aligned) as well as the abstract and key words.
  4. Abstracts are written in English and Indonesian, one paragraph each with a maximum of 200 words, font size 10, paragraph style aligned right-left/ Keywords contain a minimum of 3 terms, each term is marked with a semicolon (;), font size 11 and a distance of 6 points after the abstract. The manuscript in the form of research results contains: (1) introduction containing background, literature review and research objectives, (2) methods, (3) results, (4) discussion, (5) conclusions, (6) final notes, (7) bibliography.
  5. The manuscript in the form of thoughts, contains: (1) introduction which contains the background and aim or scope of the writing, (2) main discussion which can be divided into several sub-sections, (3) closing or conclusion, (4) final notes, (5) bibliography.
  6. The manuscript in the form of a book review, contains: (1) book identities: title, author, publisher, year of publication, printing, book thickness and book price, (2) review which contains the book's contents chronologically, the strengths and weaknesses of the content, language, etc. (3) the author's opinion that the book is important to whom and why.
  7. Direct quotations are written with the following conditions: If the direct quotation is less than 40 words, it is written between quotation marks ("...") as an integrated part of the main text. If there are quotation marks in the quotation, then single quotation marks (‘…’) are used. If the direct quote is 40 words or more then it is written without quotation marks separately from the main text, written 0.75 cm from the left and right edge of the line, typed with single spacing and font size 10. If there are words in the sentence that are removed, then the removed words are replaced with three dots.
  8. Indirect quotations are written as an integrated part of the main text by first paraphrasing the source of the quotation. Each quotation (direct and indirect) ends with a reference that leads to the endnotes section.
  9. References (notes/citations) and bibliography are written following the latest Chicago Manual of Style (CMS) style. Terms regarding this style can be seen at
  10. References are made in the long version (full notes) as endnotes which are placed at the end of the article before the bibliography with font size 9.
